1948: Richard and Maurice McDonald open their first fast-food restaurant in San Bernardino, California.
1954: Ray Kroc takes over franchising for McDonald's.
1955: Kroc opens his first McDonald's in Des Plaines, Illinois.
1961: Kroc takes full control of the McDonald's Corporation and opens Hamburger University to train employees.
1963: Ronald McDonald appears in public for the first time in Washington, D.C.
1965: First national TV ads appear; Filet-O-Fish sandwich introduced.
1968: One thousandth McDonald's restaurant opens in Des Plaines; Big Mac introduced.
