Rentetan Sejarah Perbincangan Universe

Topik mengenai universe sudah pun bermula seawal munculnya perbicangan falsafah oleh tokoh Greek silam. Beberapa nama tokoh yang membincang mengenai Universe adalah:

Phytagoras (570-490 BC) - lahir di Samos. He was influenced by the teachings of Thales, and taught by Thales' student Anaximander. Baca - historical astronomy - link.

Socrates (ca.470-399 BC) - at the age of 70, he was convicted of atheism, treason and corruption of the young. He was sentenced to death by a jury. Link - universe.

Plato (d.348 BC) - witnessed the notorious death of Socrates; adopted an intellectual approach to the study of celestial motion.

Aristotle (384-322 BC) - discussed the general nature of the Cosmos and the physical properties of individual bodies; these defining the field of 'science" for the first time

Hipparchus (190-120 BC) - Greek astronomer and mathematician who discovered the precession of the equinoxes, calculated the length of the year to within 6 1/2 minutes, compiled the first known star catalog, and made an early formulation of trigonometry. Baca hipparchus of rhodes - oregon.

Ptolemy (about 85-165 AD) - the most influential of Greek astronomers and geographers of his time. He propounded the geocentric theory of the solar system that prevailed for 1400 years. Baca maths history - st-andrews.
