Perbincangan mengenai slavery sudah jarang dilapor pada zaman kini. Namun di zaman silam slavery bukan sahaja menjadi amalan malah menjadi bisnes. Untuk mendapat input akademik tentang slavery elok baca sebuah tesis "Catch and Release: Piracy, Slavery and Law in the early modern Ottoman Medditeranean". Tesis ditulis oleh Joshua Michael White, University of Michigan pada 2012.
